Dream Big. Innovate it. Share it.
Kuala Lumpur, November 18, 2011: Culture Run’s Big
Idea, a brainstorming session for any individual from a wide variety of minds
and fields. Aimed at fresh graduates, young entrepreneurs, students and
professionals, this event aimed to bring the community of Kuala Lumpur together
in a casual setting where anyone is free to discuss and build upon their
ideas.
In conjunction
with the soft launch of Culture Run’s website, the company hosted Culture Run’s
Big Idea on November 18, 2011 at Indicine, KLpac from 8pm-11pm. The night began
with Su-Zen Low, Co-founder of CultureRun introducing Culture Run’s concept and
website geared towards peer-to-peer learning and ‘giving learning back to the
community’ where individuals can access CultureRun’s online marketplace of
classes or what they call ‘ShareShops’ to share skills, learn something new,
meet new people and discover new places.
Participants then
went through two rounds of panel discussions, which included a number of
speakers from the arts, entertainment and business industries. Panellists included
Jason Lo, TuneTalk CEO, Reverend Elisha Satvinder founder of Harvest Center, Julian
Hyde, Malaysia director of Reef Check, Winnie Loo founder of A Cut Above,
Andrew Lau from Leaderonomics, and Caroline Wilson from MADD Messenger. With
the keynote speaker being Jason Lo, Tunetalk CEO and musician, the panellists
embodied a wide array of fields, backgrounds and experiences in order to
stimulate fruitful discussion and offer their feedback towards the innovation
of participants’ ideas.
Reverend Elisha, a
panelist noted that the opportunity for the panellists was just as great as
that of the participants. It gave them the opportunity to “inspire youth to use
what they have, encourage them to respect their differences and broaden their
horizon which will impact and bring transformation in the
community."
The two panel
sessions on the day were moderated by Leonard Chua, blogger, social media
strategist, and lead guitarist for An Honest Mistake, and Crystal Cha, who
is currently a finalist in Your Big Year, a global competition to win a
trip around the world organized by Smaller Earth in conjunction
with Global Entrepreneurship Week. Jason Lo commented “CultureRun's
Big Idea is an awesome promotion for getting people to think big and exciting.
Imagination has no limits. So why should we in anything we do?”. The theme for
his speech “From Ideas to Action to Sustainability” set the atmosphere for the
rest of the evening. This was followed by the lucky draw with lucky individuals
winning YES 4g dongles and huddles. The night ended with a session where
participants were divided into groups to discuss and exchange ideas, which were
moderated, by the panellists and various volunteers with considerable
experience in their relative fields. These discussion groups aimed to stimulate
the growth and development of creativity and innovation.
The event, which
is a part of Kuala Lumpur’s 4th Global Entrepreneurship Week, aims to encourage
participants to ‘Dream Big. Innovate it. Share it’. Peer-to-peer learning is an
important element to Culture Run’s philosophy and as such the Big Idea intended
to promote this through the sharing of ideas. Supported by YES 4G, KLPAC, and
